Homemade fish burgers

There is no better comfort food than a burger and this one is going to be your new favourite 🙂 A delightful, gluten-free homemade burger which bursts with amazing flavours.

What about the buns?

I know that being gluten-free, especially if you are new to the whole story, can be super hard and unsatisfying. However, if you were not able to find a good burger bun until now, no worries because you just found yourself the best fluffy bun recipe.

The buns are super versatile and you can use them as our bread for breakfast, for burgers and you can even make them in a sweet version if you wish to. The key ingredients for the buns which make them fluffy are the almond and coconut flour. They keep the buns moist and super fluffy on the inside, but crunchy on the outside.

What about the burgers?

When I think of a burger I want it to be moist and filled with those delicious juices when I take a bite. This is why I would recommend you using an oily fish in the recipe like salmon, cod or tilapia. They will make your burger burst with flavour the moment you add some extra herbs to it.

My best way of making the burger reach that moist texture is firstly frying the burger so that I can get that nice crunch on the outside and then I just pop it in the oven for extra 20 minutes for it to cook on the inside.

Homemade fish burgers

Gluten-free, low carb and flavor bursting fish burgers you will become obsessed with.

Ingredients

Fish patties

  • 200g fresh fish of choice (salmon, tilapia, cod)
  • 100g grated zucchinni
  • 10g chopped onion
  • 15g almond flour
  • 50ml egg whites (2 egg whites)
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 10g cassava flour
  • 1/2 tsp dill
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp coconut or olive oil

Low-carb buns (serves 3)

  • 40g almond flour
  • 40g coconut flour
  • 1 tsp of psyllium husk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 150ml egg whites
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 70ml hot water
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds

Extras

  • cherry tomatoes
  • lettuce
  • yogurt sauce

Instructions

Low-carb buns

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Mix the dry ingredients in a large bowl.Bring the water to a boil.

  3. MIx the wet ingredients and then slowly add the dry mix into the wet. Let the mixture soak the liquid for about 10 minutes.

  4. Shape 3 rolls with your hands and place them on to a baking paper which you have put on a baking sheet and add some sesame seeds on top of the buns.

    Bake the buns for 25-30 minutes (until golden on top).

Fish patties

  1. Place all of the ingredients (except the oil) into a bowl and combine them well. Separate the mixture into 3 patties.

  2. Heat up a pan with coconut oil and fry the patties on each side for 5 minutes. Once you got that crispy look take them out of the pan and put them to cook on a baking paper in the oven at 200 °C for 25 minutes.

  3. Once the burgers are done, take them out and place them on a side with the buns.

Burgers

  1. Once you are making the burger, firstly add some of the sauce on the bottom of the bun, then place the burger, then the cheese and the veggies on top.
